Random House, New York, 1985, Stated First Edition. SIGNED and very fittingly inscribed at the half title page by the author "For, Mary Lou, who made K.C., a very easy gig, Albert Murray" - Kansas City is of course where the Count first came to fame. This wonderful memoir and oral history of Basie's extraordinary life in jazz, was published posthumously, shortly after his death in April of 1984. His "co author" and friend, Albert Murray, is a distinguished African American novelist, social critic, essayist and author of the indispensable jazz history, Stomping the Blues. In quarter black cloth over black boards, compression to spine ends, touch of shelf wear to bottom board, toning to page edges, a bit musty, else, near fine, tight, unmarked. The author's business card is laid in. Dust jacket is unclipped, short closed tear to top edge of front panel, light creasing to panel edges and rear flap, light shelf wear, else about near fine. Scarce signed copy with a nice jazz inscription. J1546
