Panassie's memoir of the period 1927-1938, which recounts his discovery of "le vrai jazz" in 1927, the founding of the Hot Club of France and Jazz Hot magazine, with affectionate portraits of and his first encounters with his idols, Armstrong, Ellington, Hawkins, Dickie Wells, et al., with b&w photos. In light card original printed wraps, wear and creasing to bottom edges and foot of spine, crease to bottom corner of front wrap, tanning to wraps and spine, pages are somewhat age toned, else, tightly bound, unmarked, very good+.
