Clarb Soul Bag, Levallois Perret, France, 1994, First Edition, First Printing in book form. The material in Land Of The Blues appeared 35 years before publication of this book in a series of highly influential essays commissioned by the French journal Jazz Hot; the articles appeared between December 1959 and May 1960 and recounted Demetre’s pioneering and invaluable field work in the blues communities of New York, Chicago, and Detroit, over a four week period. The essays gained wide exposure in Jazz Hot and other European journals, and inspired Paul Oliver and other prominent blues researchers to make their first trip to the United States.
In publisher’s black pictorial boards, no dust jacket as issued, complete text in English and French, with archival b & w photographs; compression to spine ends, mild rubbing to covers, light wear and creasing to edges, bottom front corner is slightly bumped, else about near fine, pages are crisp and unmarked. Long out of print and a very scarce title. J2336
