Horace Silver, SIGNED, Original Glossy B & W, 8" by 10", Blue Note Records Publicity Photograph, inscribed, "To Doc T, Best wishes, Horace Silver". A striking early portrait of Silver from a group of fourteen original jazz photographs, each signed and inscribed to a Newark, New Jersey, physician and jazz fan ("Dr T"), who acquired the autographs in person during the 1950's at various clubs in New York and Philadelphia. In a career that spanned sixty years, Horace Silver ((1928-2014), was a hard swinging, soulful pianist, composer, and bandleader who wrote some of the most enduring and important compositions in jazz, including classics like Sister Sadie and Song For My Father; while his bands, featuring such luminaries as Art Farmer, Hank Mobley and Blue Mitchell, came to epitomize and define Hard Bop. The photograph is about near fine, surface is rippled, scattered light surface dings, mild edge wear, with age toning and touch of adhesive residue to the verso; the autograph is about fine in red ink without loss of fading. With a copy of the detailed letter of provenance acquired with the collection from the previous owner, a family member who inherited the photographs from the collector's estate. J2145
