Temple University Press, Philadelphia, 1988, First Edition. SIGNED, dated, and warmly inscribed by jazz bassist, Milt Hinton at the ffep, to the renowned jazz writer Nat Hentoff, in year of publication: "To Nat Hentoff, 'Now You Hear Me Talking' (smile), Thanks for all your concern, Milt 'Judge' Hinton, 88" with his characteristic sketch of a bass after the signature. Hinton's inscription makes witty reference to Hentoff's classic oral history of jazz "Here Me Talkin' To Ya", co-authored with Nat Shapiro, and first published in 1955. The great bassist's warm, anecdotal memoir of his life in jazz, lavishly illustrated with the author's photographs, selected from a personal archive of over 60,000 negatives. In a career that spanned seventy years, playing with the greats of the music, Hinton, a talented photographer, was perfectly placed to capture unique and candid images of his fellow musicians. In red cloth, spine is leaning slightly, fore corners are bumped, spine ends lightly compressed, else about near fine, clean and unmarked; in a very good++ dust jacket, unclipped, panels are lightly rubbed, creasing to fore corners, touch of edge wear, now in mylar sleeve. This is the companion volume to an extensive collection of his remarkable jazz photographs entitled, Over Time, published in 1991. An uncommon, signed copy with a wonderful jazz association. J1720
