Duke Ellington, Original Vintage Concert Poster, Kongresshalle, [Frankfurt] Germany, Oct. 20 1959, designed by Gunther Kieser, with Michel & Kieser imprint to the upper left margin. A1 Format (approx. 32" by 23" / 84 cm by 59.7 cm), about near fine with shallow crease to bottom left corner, light wear to top left margin, short closed tear to centre of top edge, stored flat and shipped in a mailing tube. Gunther Kieser (1930) is one of Germany's preeminent poster artists whose work can be found in the collections of major museums including, the Tokyo Museum, the Louvre and the Museum of Modern Art . He has had a prolific and varied career, during which his technically innovative, provocative and brilliant designs have kept him in the fore front of European poster art. Kieser is perhaps best known for his jazz and rock concert posters, and particularly for the work he did for the German concert producers Lippman & Rau during the 1950-80's, and for whom he effectively acted as in house designer. Because this poster was designed and produced exclusively for Ellington's German concert tour of 1959, it is uncommon and a collectible early example of Kieser's jazz poster art. J1671
