Original Autograph Page, SIGNED by Sonny Stitt. A virtuoso alto saxphonist and quintessential member of the bebop generation of jazz musicians, Sonny Stitt (1924-1982), was deeply influenced early in his career by Charlie Parker, whose style he emulated and closely mirrored. Perhaps in part to distance himself from Parker, he began to play the tenor saxophone in 1950, and some critics suggest that his most significant work was produced on the larger horn. His recording career was prolific and over the years he played with the great figures of his era, including Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell and Miles Davis and had a long and fruitful partnership with fellow tenorist Gene Ammons. But essentially he seemed to prefer to work alone, touring relentlessly, often playing with pick up bands, an illustrious jazz master dedicated to and driven by the music. Lightly textured autograph page, 5 3/4" by 4", light tan in colour, touch of rippling to verso of top edge, else fine with a fine ball point signature in blue ink without loss, skipping or fading. Collectible signature of a jazz luminary. J1507
