Schirmer, New York, 1979, First Edition, First Printing, with complete number line. SIGNED, inscribed and dated in year of publication on the half title page by Al Rose and Eubie Blake with association inscription and signature of Harry Connick, Jr. on the first blank page. Previous owner attended a Connick concert with the book and informed Connick that he was mentioned on page 142 where Blake is described as" play(ing) his duet of "I'm Just Wild About Harry" with then eight-year-old Harry Connick, Jr., the son of good New Orleans friends." Connick was delighted to be reminded and signed the book on the spot. The two lines of relevant text were subsequently underlined by previous owner. Rose's warm and informed biography relies on countless hours of taped interviews with Eubie who was still flourishing and performing at ninety six when the book was published! Blake was a central and pioneering figure in the rise of black entertainment and in fact his extraordinary long life and career spans much of the history of American popular musical culture. In brown cloth, light spotting to fore edge, top forecorners are gently bumped, spine ends slightly compressed, otherwise very good+ in a near fine dust jacket, not price clipped, slightly rubbed, hint of wear to panel edges and extremities. Scarce signed copy with wonderful association signature. J1015
