Putnam, New York, 1981, First Edition, First Printing. Boldly SIGNED and inscribed on the ffep, in black ink, “Love Love, Anita O’Day". The harrowing memoir of the great jazz singer, who by 1941 at just twenty two years of age, had achieved fame as a vocalist with the Gene Krupa band, only to find herself just ten years later, down and out battling heroin and alcohol addiction. Unlike her famous contemporary Billie Holiday, she survived, and despite further serious health problems over the years, continued to perform well into the 1990's. She died in 2006 at 87, the last surviving member of a great generation of jazz singers. Very good++, in grey boards, spine ends are somewhat compressed, touch of spine lean, several of the photographs are starting, but the book is otherwise tightly bound; in an unclipped dust jacket, with first printing date of 8109 to front flap, slight creasing to spine ends, touch of wear to extremities and panel edges, else about near fine, now in mylar sleeve. Very uncommon signed copy of an iconic jazz autobiography, in collectible condition. J1897 [SOLD]
