An essential jazz photography reference, from the estate of jazz discographer and collector, Rudolph Dorn, with his book stamp to the ffep, originally SIGNED and occasionally inscribed to the previous owner at their respective photographs by 26 jazz luminaries; trumpeters, Chet Baker, Roy Eldridge, Joe Newman, Wild Bill Davison, Yank Lawson and Billy Butterfield ; orchestra leader and pianist Count Basie, drummer Art Blakey, saxophonists, Johnny Hodges (who has signed three times), Benny Carter, Al Cohn, Bud Freeman and Eddie Miller; by clarinetist, Peanuts Hucko, vibraphonist Red Norvo, and vocalist Mildred Bailey, pianists Oscar Peterson, Dick Wellstood and Art Hodes (twice signed); and bassist, Ray Brown, trombonists Lawrence Brown and Kai Winding, guitarists Tal Farlow, Al Casey, Barney Kessel and Eddie Durham.
In original grey cloth, lacking the dust jacket, boards are rubbed, with sunning to spine and panel edges, corners are bumped and creased, rippling to top fore corner of text block, else very good, pages are tight and clean, original signatures near fine to fine, in ink. Discographers are inveterate annotators and there are a few scattered notations in Dornís hand throughout. An extraordinary collection of jazz signatures, a vintage and scarce jazz collectible which includes the much prized autograph of Chet Baker. Additional photographs on request. J
