Duke Ellington, Original Vintage Concert Poster, First Printing, KongreBhalle, Frankfurt, [Germany], presented in cooperation with Norman Granz, Wednesday, Nov. 12 1958, designed by Gunther Kieser. A1 Format (approx. 33" by 23"/ 84 cm. by 59.7 cm), short closed tears to top and bottom of the centre vertical fold, touch of rubbing to left vertical fold, else very good ++, bright, clean, verso is unmarked. In November of 1958 the Ellington Orchestra was nearing the end of a typically long and grueling European Tour with the second of seven concert appearances in Germany, for which this elegant poster, produced in both landscape and portrait format, was exclusively designed by Gunther Kieser and is scarce, thus. Gunther Kieser (1930) is one of Germany's preeminent poster artists whose work can be found in the collections of major museums including, the Tokyo Museum, the Louvre and the Museum of Modern Art. He has had a prolific and varied career, during which his technically innovative, provocative and brilliant designs have kept him in the fore front of European poster art. Kieser is perhaps best known for his jazz and rock concert posters, and particularly for the design work he did for the German concert producers Lippman & Rau from the 1950-80s.
