Random House, New York, 1958, Stated First Printing. Holmes was celebrated for his book 'Go', the first to portray his friends Kerouac, Ginsberg and other literary contemporaries who were to become famous as the voice of The Beat Generation. The Horn was his second novel and in its depiction of saxophonist, Edgar Pool, reflects the Beats' passion for jazz and their veneration of its great musicians. Vivid, powerful, if somewhat romanticized, still one of the best jazz novels. In black three quarter cloth over green boards, light age toning to page edges, slight spine lean, else, about fine, clean, tight, unmarked, in a strong near fine dust jacket, original price of $3.75 to front flap, slightly rubbed, touch of wear to spine ends and front panel extremities. Handsome copy of the first printing. J1391.
