Dutton, New York, 1961, Stated First Edition, First Printing, Advance Reading Copy, with publisher's card laid in, which states "with the compliments of the author". Russell's flamboyant novel closely mirrors the tumultuous life of Charlie Parker; the author knew Bird well and recorded Parker's classic sessions of the mid-late 40's for his one-man label Dial Records. About fine in red and black cloth boards, silver titles to spine and jacket illustration facsimile to front board, tiny dent to the front bottom fore corner of text block, page edges are slightly toned, otherwise tight, clean, unmarked. In a very good illustrated dust jacket by Paul Bacon, unclipped with original price of $3.95, somewhat rubbed, spine is slightly sunned, price label to rear panel, general minor edge wear, closed tear to head of spine and to top fore corner of front flap. Quite scarce in collectible condition. J711
