Sister Rosetta Tharpe (1915-1973), Original SIGNED Autograph Card, inscribed "Best wishes, always, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, 1942"; with a digital print of the front cover of her Brunswick EP recording "Wedding Ceremony of Sister Rosetta". Rosetta Tharpe was the first superstar of Gospel music whose soulful voice, showmanship, and exciting guitar work made her the first successful crossover artist , bringing Gospel into the mainstream. She was a critical influence on several generations of rock, blues and soul performers, including, notably, Elvis Presley, Little Richard and Aretha Franklin. Tharpe's career came to a sudden end in 1970 when she suffered a stroke and lost a leg due to complications with diabetes. She died of a second stroke in 1973. The autograph card, is 6 1/8" by 2 ", tan uncoated stock, near fine with a shallow diagonal crease to the right corner. The autograph is about fine in black ink with a touch of brushing to "always". Tharpe's autograph is uncommon and very scarce from early in her career, this being the earliest example we've offered. Provenance is the extensive blues collection of the late Walter Glenn; scarce and suitable for framing. J2258
