Oxford University Press, New York, 1988, First Printing with complete number line. The companion volume to the author's, American Musicians, revised and significantly expanded from the original edition, contains all of the great jazz writer's biographical studies of what he described as "almost every kind of American non-academic singer", originally written primarily for The New Yorker magazine between 1970-1984. From the collection of the prominent jazz historian and broadcaster, Oscar Treadwell, whose book plate is laid in at the ffep. Until his death in 2006, Treadwell was the voice of jazz radio in Cincinnati, Ohio, for many years a tireless and generous promoter of jazz, memorialized by Charlie Parker in his composition, Oscar For Treadwell, and by Thelonius Monk, who in 1955 sent Treadwell his tune, Oska T, to be used as a radio show theme song. Quarter bound in black cloth over navy boards, price sticker residue to top corner of ffep, else, about fine, clean and unmarked. Dust jacket is unclipped, slightly rubbed, a hint of toning to flap edges, creasing and short closed tear to head of spine, else near fine. A very nice, uncommon jazz association copy. J1268
