This wonderful memoir and oral history of the Count's extraordinary life in jazz, was published posthumously, shortly after Basie's death in April of 1984. His "co-author" and friend, Albert Murray 91916-2013), was a distinguished African American novelist, social theorist, essayist and author of the indispensable jazz history, Stomping the Blues. In quarter black cloth over black boards, spine ends are slightly pushed, touch of shelf wear to bottom edge, sunning to top edges of boards, else, about near fine, tight, unmarked; in a like dust jacket, unclipped, shallow creasing and wear to the top edge of the front panel and spine ends, short closed tear to rear wrap at the bottom hinge.
